The Company OnStage is excited to announce that we are hosting auditions for Empowered: How One Girl Scout Nearly Destroyed the World’s Economy by Don Zolidis and Trouble in Mind by Alice Childress. Auditions will take place on Sunday, January 10th and Monday, January 11th, 2027, beginning at 7pm at 5720 Bellaire Blvd, Suite G, Houston, TX 77081. We ask that participants arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork and introduce yourself to the stage managers and directors. If you have a headshot and resume, please bring them (not required). There are no audition appointments, and actors are not required to present prepared monologues. The evening will cover the auditions for both shows, beginning with the Young Audiences Production. During each show’s audition, all actors will have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in a group setting with the director selecting sides and combinations of participants to read together or independently. Please be prepared to move and make bold choices! *************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** YOUNG AUDIENCES PRODUCTION – Empowered: How One Girl Scout Nearly Destroyed the World’s Economy by Don Zolidis EMPOWERED: HOW ONE GIRL SCOUT NEARLY DESTROYED THE WORLD’S ECONOMY is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Playscripts. www.concordtheatricals.com PRODUCTION DATES First Rehearsal: Sunday, January 31st, 2027 Rehearsal Schedule: Sunday and Tuesday Evenings Beginning at 7pm. So, when sales drop, she naturally turns to the financial sector for advice. Soon she’s faking a terminal illness, franchising her methods, and contracting with a payday lender to offer 30-year loans for cookies. AUDITIONS FOR THIS PRODUCTION WILL CONSIST OF COLD READINGS FROM THE SCRIPT. ********************************************************************************************************************* EVENING THEATRE PRODUCTION – Trouble in Mind by Alice Childress TROUBLE IN MIND is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals Corp. www.concordtheatricals.com PRODUCTION DATES First Rehearsal: Monday, February 1st, 2027 Rehearsal Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday Evenings Beginning at 7pm. (Additional Dates may be added, if needed) Performance Dates: Fridays and Saturdays, April 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th at 7:30 pm and Sunday, April 11th at 2 pm Strike Date: Sunday, April 25th, 2027, at 12 pm CASTING REQUIREMENTS Total Number of Actors: 9 (3 female presenting and 6 male presenting) Age range: TBD There are no roles for anyone under 18 years of age in this production. This play is based on real people and centers around discussion of race and racial identity. Please look at the character list below, which clarifies the casting requirements regarding the ethnicity of all roles. LIST OF CHARACTERS African American Roles Wiletta Mayer John Nevins Millie Davis Sheldon Forrester Caucasian-presenting Roles Henry Judy Sears Al Manners Eddie Fenton Bill O’Wray SYNOPSIS A talented and experienced Black actress has been cast in Chaos in Belleville, an anti-lynching play set to open on Broadway. She’s paid her dues throughout the years, playing stereotypical supporting roles in second-rate shows, and is ready for her star turn. Chaos in Belleville, written by a white playwright, might not be quite as enlightened a piece as she’s been hoping for — but that doesn’t mean it won’t sell out. And selling out is the question at the heart of Alice Childress’s comedy-drama. A cast of multigenerational Black actors rehearse under the purview of a white director and stage manager, and as the rehearsal process unfolds, theatre conventions and racial politics collide, resulting in a surprisingly funny yet deeply piercing look at the entertainment industry. AUDITIONS FOR THIS PRODUCTION WILL CONSIST OF COLD READINGS FROM THE SCRIPT. ********************************************************************************************************************* The Company OnStage, Inc.
