Invoking ancient instruments while breathing life into music of our time, the program probes sonic possibilities, both familiar and fantastical. DEBUSSY Sonata for cello and piano in D minor, L. 135 (11’) HERSH Moon Music for solo cello (4’) WEBERN 2 Pieces for Cello Piano (5’) SAY Dört Şehir (Four Cities), Sonata for cello and piano, Op. 41 (24’) SOLLIMA Lamentatio for solo cello (6’) This event is free and open to the public, with donations gratefully accepted in support of continued cultural programming. Cellist Alexander Hersh has emerged as one of his generation’s most compelling artists, praised for expressive performances and imaginative programming. A Carnegie Hall recitalist and acclaimed soloist, he is Co-Artistic Director of NEXUS Chamber Music in Chicago. Hailed by The Washington Post for his “poised and imaginative playing,” Filipino-American pianist Victor Santiago Asuncion has performed across North and South America, Europe and Asia. A Steinway & Sons Artist, he is also the founder of FilAm Music Foundation, championing Filipino classical musicians.
