About this event

Get ready to shed a single tear for the King of Drape. Join us on Saturday, April 25th at the historic Eureka Theater for a very special edition of our Essential Cinema series. We are turning back the clock to 1954 (or at least to 1990) to celebrate the legendary John Waters turning 80 years old. Just a few days after his birthday on April 22nd, we are honoring the man with a big screen presentation of his gleefully twisted musical masterpiece, Cry-Baby. This is your chance to see Johnny Depp as the uber-cool Wade “Cry-Baby” Walker. He pouts, he rocks, and he cries his way into the heart of a good girl and into cinematic history. Featuring a cast that only Waters could assemble (including Iggy Pop, Ricki Lake, Traci Lords, and the spirit of the late, great Divine), this film is a rockabilly riot. It lovingly lampoons 1950s teen angst, square society, and the Baltimore of Waters’ youth. It is naughty, it is nice, and it demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible. Part of our Essential Cinema series. Because some films are not just movies. They are experiences that demand a crowd, a dark theater, and a big screen in Humboldt County.   Doors Open at 7:00 PM Film Starts at 7:30 PM   Tickets General Admission: $10 Kids (Under 12): $5   Dress to Impress Put on your best drape gear or your squarest cardigan. Whether you are a drape or a square, come ready to jive, cheer for the bad kids, and boo the Whiffles. It is a party.   About the Film In 1954 Baltimore, good girl Allison (played by Amy Locane) is tired of being a square. Her life changes when she meets the notorious “Cry-Baby” Walker (played by Johnny Depp). He is a rebel with a perfect pompadour and a single, irresistible tear. Their forbidden love sets off a turf war between the cool Drapes and the preppy Squares. It leads to jailbreaks, chicken races, and some of the catchiest tunes this side of a reform school.   Do not be square. Grab your tickets now for a night of “Doin’ Time for Bein’ Young” at the Eureka Theater. Sponsored by Ashley Doss and
