First, something you don’t hear every day: the full Egmont music by Beethoven. Written for Goethe’s drama, it’s dark, urgent and ultimately triumphant. With soprano Yulia Van Doren adding a luminous voice to the story, it unfolds like a cinematic arc, not just a single overture. Then comes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2— massive, rich and surprisingly tender. At the center is Tzimon Barto, a force of nature at the keyboard (also a writer, poet and former bodybuilder).
