Then things turn inward. Kris Bowers’ For a Younger Self feels like a letter to who we used to be, full of warmth and wonder. It’s performed by charismatic violinist Charles Yang, one of those rare musicians who doesn’t sit neatly in one box. He blends classical, pop, rock and improvisation. Then Richard Strauss’ Symphonia Domestica brings it all home — truly — painting a vivid, sometimes chaotic portrait of family life. This is music that feels like real life.
