It opens with the irresistible sparkle of The Marriage of Figaro overture — fast, funny and full of energy — and builds into the elegance and drive of Symphony No. 36, the “Linz.” Along the way, there are a few turns inspired by Mozart’s life, from the heartfelt simplicity of Richard Rodgers’ Edelweiss to the refined, colorful textures of Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin. And for something completely different, TFO Principal Double Bass Ryan Sujdak steps into the spotlight for Giovanni Bottesini’s Fantasia on La Sonnambula — a virtuosic showpiece that proves the double bass can move, sing and dazzle just like any solo instrument.
