The idea behind this class is the application of concepts from contemporary dance and partnered dancing to expand the vocabulary and conceptual toolbox for combatants and choreographers.Beginning with non-combat exercises centered on matching, mirroring, and footwork, we will then move to in-contact exercises for compression, tension, frame matching, and tone matching. We will then apply these concepts to single sword combat, and explore how these ideas can be used both as generative tools for creating new choreography, as well as rehearsal tools for cleaning choreography that already exists.Class Level: Intermediate/AdvancedSunday, January 24, 2027 @ 9am to 12pm ESTat the Reston Players’ Lindsay C.
