Wild Pages: Creating Nature Zines with Meg Worthington Saturday, December 5 | 1 – 4 pm Register Here! Discover the creative world of zines while deepening your connection to the natural world around you. Zines are small, handmade publications that have long been used to share ideas, art, stories, and personal experiences. In this beginner-friendly workshop, participants will learn about the history and cultural significance of zines, explore examples of nature-focused zines, and create their own mini nature zine inspired by observations from the NC Arboretum. Through sketching, writing, collage, and simple book-folding techniques, participants will transform their observations into a unique publication they can take home. No artistic experience is necessary. This workshop is designed for adults of all skill levels and emphasizes curiosity, creativity, and careful observation. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring in any personal art materials you may want to use. This class will take place primarily in a classroom, with a short portion taking place outside following easy trails and paved walkways. Dress for the weather and prepare to be outside for around 30 minutes. Meg Worthington (they/them) began teaching in Alaska while pursuing their Master’s degree in Outdoor and Environmental Education. While pursuing their degree they found a great sense of purpose in connecting students with the natural world and fostering a sense of curiosity and joy in learners of all ages. Meg’s experience working on a small educational farm in Palmer, Alaska helped to instill a keen interest in how we interact and cultivate our experiences within nature and our local communities. They are currently enjoying learning more about the local ecology of Western North Carolina and are excited to begin teaching classes as an Adult Education Specialist with the Adult Education Department at The NC Arboretum. Meg is also a local artist in the Asheville area, working with a variety of mediums including zines and collage to share and process the wide array of human emotions and what it means to be a soul. They love incorporating nature into their artwork and are always keen to learn new processes and artforms. ● Pre-registration is required for all classes unless otherwise detailed above. ● Members: Remember to enter your promo code upon checkout to receive your 10% member discount!
