TICKET LINK | The New Original Vagabonds are a group of friends and fellow music travelers, made up of members of some of Madison’s most enduring, well-loved bands, including Annie and the Oakies, The Barley Brothers, The Cajun Strangers, Canyon Arrow, Echo Rays, the Ham n’ Eggers, and The Moonboot. They joined forces a couple of years ago to explore their shared love for the music of Bob Dylan and have put on two very successful concerts celebrating Dylan’s birthday. For this show, the New Original Vagabonds will turn their focus to one of Dylan’s most significant influences: Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music. This six-LP compilation of 84 songs was released in 1954 by the Folkways label, and since then has become one of foundational documents of American popular music, kickstarting the American folk music revival of the 1960s and providing innumerable listeners a portal into the old, weird America. Over two sets, the New Original Vagabonds will reinterpret selections-- some familiar, others obscure-- from across the anthology. It should be rewarding and engaging for both hardcore folkheads and more casual music fans The band is comprised of Ian Alderman, Colin Bazali, Jeff Burkhart, Annie Emmenegger, Jeff Kunkle, Matt Nafranowicz, and Brian O’Donnell.
