The (De)Civilizing Process: Paul McCarthy's Regressive Routines

Cary Levine is Associate Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his Ph.D. from the Graduate Center, City University of New York, and is a recipient of a J. Paul Getty Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and the Phillip and Ruth Hettleman Prize for Artistic and Scholarly Achievement at UNC. Levine’s current research focuses on the intersections of art, politics, and digital technologies. In addition to his scholarship and teaching, Dr. Levine has been an active art critic, writing for magazines such as Art in America and BOMB. He has published numerous essays for exhibition catalogues and also worked for three years in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
