PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE with Ray Goodluck in Santa Fe

Water St. Santa Fe, NM 87501 (505) 983-1050 Ray Goodluck is a self-taught painter whose work draws inspiration from the animals he grew up around and the heritage of his Navajo ancestors. A member of the Mud People, One Who Walks Around One, Water That Flows Together, and Blacksheep clans, Goodluck was raised on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, where his early connection to land, culture, and wildlife continues to inform his art. Before turning to painting, Goodluck worked as an ironworker out of Local 40 in New York City, where he was the first and only Navajo member. In April 2019, while working on the Raiders stadium in Las Vegas, he suffered a life-altering injury that left him wheelchair-bound and facing a long rehabilitation. During this difficult period, painting emerged as an unexpected source of purpose and healing. What began as a simple attempt to pass the time soon evolved into a deep passion. Though entirely self-taught, Goodluck committed himself to the challenge, developing his skills through persistence and determination. Today, Goodluck views the creative process as both therapeutic and transformative, with the hope that his work offers the same sense of connection and healing to those who experience it. His paintings have already garnered recognition, including features in Native American Art magazine and Western Art Collector.
