About this event

Arts & Culture

Location: Sculpture Court Registration required. Fashion Remix is a creative initiative that invites Baltimore-based fashion designers to take inspiration from artworks in the Walters collection to create original, wearable designs. Fashion Remix highlights how historic art continues to inspire new forms of expression, celebrating Baltimore’s vibrant creative community and connections between past and present. This year’s program connects fashion, history, and storytelling alongside Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture, an exhibition on view at the Walters April 18–August 9. On August 9, come dressed in your art-inspired best for a mixer with the designers and members of Baltimore’s fashion community at this event held during Baltimore Fashion Week. Guests will have the opportunity to view the looks designed by Fashion Remix finalists, connect with local creatives, and visit Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture before it closes. Applications open: Interested in applying to Fashion Remix: Art Inspiring Designers? The Walters Art Museum is accepting applications now through Sunday, May 3. Learn more and submit your application. REGISTER Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture is dedicated to jewelry artist Douriean Fletcher, whose work has shaped the cinematic worlds of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther films and Coming 2 America. The exhibition explores the self-taught metalsmith’s jewelry as a powerful narrative tool in art, Black identity, and visual storytelling and spotlights works from the Walters collection that inspired the artist. The exhibition is on view from April 18 to August 9 in our Temporary Exhibition Gallery on Level 1. This exhibition is made possible, in part, by The Betty Cooke and William O. Steinmetz Exhibitions Fund, Guy Flynn and Nupur Parekh Flynn, Judy and Scott Phares, Anthony Evans and Kevin Sowers, Alex Cooper Auctioneers, Jabari Jefferson, Shaquayah McKenzie, Susan Weingast Brown and Thomas Brown, Jesse Salazar and Tom Williams, Mark Anthony Thomas, Travieso & Ziegler, LLC, and other supporters of the Walters Art Museum.
