Brahms’ Requiem

About this event
One of 57 upcoming events at Tucson Symphony Center.
For years Brahms struggled to compose due to extreme self-doubt and insecurity. Inspired by the profound grief he felt by the death of his mother and his mentor Robert Schumann, he completed the grand, seven-movement masterpiece over three years. He skipped the traditional Latin text and chose passages from the German Lutheran Bible instead, creating a work he designed to comfort and console the living. José Luis Gómez conducts Brahms’ poetic settings, A German Requiem. Plus, arias of Mozart and Carlos Chávez’ colorful realization of the organ Chaconne of Buxtehude. In partnership with the Tucson Desert Song Festival. Plan Your Visit This concert is available as part of a Classic Series or Create Your Own Subscription.
