The Mixtape New Works Festival Vol. 2 Presents The Incredible and Definitely True Tale of Franz Mesmer by Rachel Chin and Sammy Grob In 1776, a man of no importance among Vienna's idle rich, discovers the power of "Raw Animal Magnetism" and sets out to heal all of Austria, aided by his butler-turned-disciple Antoine and his dutiful wife Anna Maria. This farcical play with songs follows Franz Mesmer's rise as the purveyor of the trendiest cure-all in Europe, navigating exile, encounters with Marie Antoinette and Benjamin Franklin, and ultimately a royally commissioned investigation that pits his miracle cure against the scientific method itself. This is a concert reading of a new play with songs in development.  Instrumental Theatre Company is a Chicago based performing arts organization whose mission is to inspire harmony through ensemble storytelling crafted at the intersection of actors and musicians.  ITC is excited to return to Uncommon Ground this year with a festival celebrating new musically inspired storytelling.
