4 Sundays, May 17 – June 7 Age Level: 18 and up Experience Level: Intermediate and up Come make and fire your pots with us in this introduction to Raku firing. Raku is quick, fiery, and the results are unpredictable but amazing. Students will make and finish pieces to fire in the Raku kiln during the first 2 weeks of class. Pieces may be wheel-thrown or hand-built. All pieces must be less than 6” tall and may not weigh more than 2 pounds. Flat tiles and plates will not be fired. The bique-fired pottery is glazed during the third class. The last class will take place on the kiln shelter, and all pieces will be fired. Students will be able to take their work home on the day of the last class. Raku-fired work is NOT FOOD SAFE. To be an active participant in the firing, you MUST wear long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toed shoes. Other safety equipment will be provided. If you do not wish to handle the ware in the kiln, you may just observe. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Each registration includes clay, tools, glaze, and firing costs for one participant. No outside clay or glazes permitted. If a class or workshop is sold out, you may request to be added to the waitlist. Union Project is committed to being accessible to all. The building is wheelchair accessible via the side door on Stanton Avenue, and an accessible parking spot is located just outside that door. Service animals are always welcome, and ASL interpretation can be provided on request. Please let us know what accommodations we can make to ensure your experience is positive, contact Alex Woodring at 412-363-4550 or alex@unionproject.org if you have specific accommodations or needs.
