In November, we will discuss Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Melinda Lo, which has been banned and challenged in many places in the U.S. since 2022. The novel explores themes of self-discovery, coming of age, love, and the challenges of navigating identity amid societal prejudice and cultural pressures. With the threat of deportation looming over her father–in spite of his hard-won citizenship and disavowal of Communism–seventeen-year-old American-born Chinese Lily Hu pursues a relationship with her Caucasian classmate Kath.
