The Lake Tahoe Mushroom Festival is being organized by the Sierra Nevada Alliance in partnership with a collective of local fungi experts, including mycologists, educators, researchers, and experienced field guides. Together, we are creating a celebration of fungi, forest ecosystems, and the natural connections that sustain our region. Get your tickets today! At its core, this event is dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship and a deeper appreciation for the vital role fungi play in healthy ecosystems. Our goal is to inspire a community that is more connected to the natural world and empowered to become active stewards of the places we cherish. The festival offers a unique opportunity to engage the public around shared values of conservation, education, curiosity, and community through fun, interactive, and accessible experiences. Attendees can enjoy guided mushroom forays, expert-led lectures and demonstrations, educational exhibits, artisan and vendor booths, live music, a kid zone, nature-based crafts, and many other activities designed to inspire learning and connection. Speakers & demonstrations: 12:30–1:00 PM — Gina Woods, The Woods Apothecary The Interwoven Fabric: Edible & Medicinal Mushrooms and Plants of Tahoe Holistic practitioner, herbalist, forager, and educator on how Tahoe’s plants and fungi work together. 1:45–2:30 PM — Chad Hyatt Mushroom Cooking Demonstration Chef and expert forager. Expect a fresh take on edibility, flavor pairings, and tasting wild mushrooms done right. 3:30–4:00 PM — Christopher Mackessy, Trash Panda Permaculture Explorations in Amanita muscaria Field educator on human–flora–fungi relationships and one of the Sierra’s most recognizable (and misunderstood) mushrooms. 4:15–4:45 PM — Thea Chesney Mushroom Ecology of the Sierra Nevada Naturalist, mycologist, and Sierra foothill native on how fungi shape montane forests — and how to see them in the field. Also on the day: Live music (Tril.Lion, SirRynity, Luigi, Bison) · artisan & fungi vendors · educational exhibits · kid zone · nature crafts · fungi costume contest. Food trucks on site. The Hangar bottle shop will be open. Low chairs okay; no coolers or outside food/drink. Parking at The Hangar and nearby; bike valet available. Come for a foray, stay for the fungi.
