From Vulcan Park and Museum

The Alabama Ballet and Vulcan Park & Museum are partnering for the first time to bring together history and the magic of dance atop Red Mountain. Get ready to move, learn, and be amazed! Join us for Ballet in the Sky, a family-friendly evening at Vulcan Park’s outdoor Overlook on Saturday, September 26, from 5:30–7:30 PM. Alabama Ballet’s professional dancers take the stage for excerpts from American Portraits, a stirring mixed repertory program created in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, featuring works by George Balanchine, Paul Vasterling, and Artistic Director Christopher Stuart. It’s a bold, joyful tribute to the artistic spirit of our nation, performed with Birmingham’s skyline as the backdrop. Before the curtain rises, get pulled into the magic through Dance Discovery, Alabama Ballet’s beloved education program. Dancers guide guests through an interactive journey into the history and technique of ballet, breaking down the art form in a way that’s engaging for first-timers and lifelong fans alike, before bringing it all to life on stage. And the fun doesn’t stop at the performance. Guests can enjoy Vulcan Park & Museum’s annual 2026 exhibit, Revolutionary Roots: Celebrating Alabama’s Unique History and Natural Beauty. Created in conjunction with the national America250 initiative, this exhibit highlights Alabamians from around the state who have made important contributions to Alabama history but are often overlooked or unsung. From first-time ballet-goers to lifelong fans, everyone is welcome at Ballet in the Sky. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and settle in for an unforgettable evening atop Red Mountain!
