The Waukegan Historical Society is celebrating the completion of the Ray Bradbury Library Exhibit on Friday, August 21, 2026 at 12pm to 6pm and Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 11am to 3pm at the Waukegan History Museum at the Carnegie, located at 1 N. Sheridan Road. The Waukegan Historical Society is proud to unveil this permanent, immersive exhibit celebrating the world-renowned author’s local roots. By exploring Bradbury’s Waukegan childhood and the library where he discovered the power of books and began writing his earliest stories, the exhibit seeks to inspire a new generation of readers, writers, and dreamers. The ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, August 21, 2026 includes free admission and will be available for group tours during operating hours. Saturday, August 22, 2026 will also include free admission and tours available for the community to celebrate Ray Bradbury’s birthday and remarkable work. What visitors will encounter: ANIMATED STORYTELLING: Follow Ray Brabury’s journey through a new, exclusive animated short that explores Ray Bradbury’s life, imagination, and the Carnegie Library’s pivotal role in shaping his future. EXCLUSIVE ARTIFACTS: View Bradbury’s typewriter, original manuscripts, and cherished personal items. DISCOVER BRADBURY THROUGH HIS BOOKS: Explore selections from his expansive personal library, offering a deeper look into the interests, influences, and lifelong curiosity that inspired one of America’s greatest storytellers. BILINGUAL LEARNING ACCESS. Connect with Bradbury’s legacy in both English and Spanish, bringing Ray Bradbury’s life and love of literature to more people.
