From Wende Museum

On Wednesday, November 4, Dr. Yun Kim and Dr. Jacques MoraMarco lead a special Wellness Wednesday built around walking meditation. The two doctors of traditional East Asian medicine wrote Walking Your Way to Vitality, a guide to joining walking, breathwork, and mindfulness in daily exercise. The morning opens at 9 a.m. in the A-Frame Theater at the Wende Museum with a short sound meditation and an introduction to the Vitality Walk, one of the six walking styles in the book. It draws on the ideas of qi, prana, tai chi, qigong, and yoga. The group then moves to the garden to practice the walk together, followed by Q&A. Longtime walkers and meditators alike will find new ways to build a daily practice that strengthens the body and calms the mind. The morning continues with a food service at KONSUM, a book signing, and the Soup o Tha Day movement class. About the Teachers Dr. Yun Kim is the founder of Emperor’s Wellness, a doctor of traditional East Asian medicine, and a fifth-generation lineage student of Sun Tai Chi. She has practiced mindful meditation for 20 years and has learned from teachers including Thich Nhat Hanh, Trudy Goodman, and Christiane Wolf. A licensed acupuncturist in California, she completed her doctoral clinical rotation at the PTSD clinic at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health System and keeps an acupuncture practice in Los Angeles. She earned her Doctor of Education at the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education. Dr. Jacques MoraMarco, a doctor of traditional East Asian medicine, has been a licensed acupuncturist since 1977 and took the first acupuncture licensing exam California ever gave. He apprenticed with See Han Kim, a renowned teacher of traditional Korean medicine who trained in a monastery, and did postgraduate work at Ecole Européene d’Acupuncture in Paris. From 1994 to 2004 he studied Sun Tai Chi with Sun Shurong in Beijing and is a fourth-generation lineage holder of the form. He cofounded the International Sun Tai Chi Association with Thomas Duterme and Eric Lee. He has served as a clinic supervisor at Being Alive, which provides free wellness services to people living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles, and at the PTSD Clinic at the VA Greater Los Angeles Health System. He is dean emeritus of the former Emperor’s College of Traditional East Asian Medicine. Seating in the theater is first come, first served, so please arrive early. RSVP does not guarantee admission. An ADA-accessible entrance to the Wende Museum’s Community Center is through the gate from the parking lot at 10858 Culver Blvd.
