About this event
One of 6 upcoming events at Whiskey Del Bac.
Join us for our next installment of our collaborative lecture series! On October 13, acclaimed University of Arizona professor of Classical Art History and Archaeology Mont Allen will share a lecture examining Roman sarcophagi that were decorated with scenes showing Dionysus — the Greek god of alcohol and ecstasy — and his boozy followers partying it up, and asks why any respectable ancient Roman thought it was appropriate to be buried in coffins showing such scenes. Some of these sarcophagi were even shaped like the massive tubs or vats in which Romans made wine. So, the major question: why would any family want to imagine that their dearly beloved was resting forever in a wine vat?! This lecture is meant to be as fun as it is informative and is aimed at a general audience. Come learn about how they drank in the old days while sipping some real forward-thinking spirits. The event is free, but space is limited. Please RSVP here.
