Relax Attack Jazz Series: The Cogstet

Matthew Coglianese is an upright and electric bassist. An integral part of his musical identity is his love for a wide variety of genres from swing to classical, hip hop to Latin jazz, funk to bluegrass, and everything in between. Since he is proficient on both the electric and upright bass, Matthew finds himself in many of the rich musical cultures that are embedded in the Chicago music scene. His most prominent project is the blues-soaked soul-funk powerhouse known as Zoofunkyou, which has been an integral part of the city’s music scene for 10+ years his group known as the Cogstet, the ensemble explores creative and improvisatory soundscapes built around original and spontaneous compositions.
