Saturday, September 19, 2026 Old Newgate Prison and Copper Mine is located at 115 Newgate Road, East Granby, CT. The 10th Annual Bat Appreciation Day at Old Newgate Prison in East Granby Connecticut is a wonderful family friendly event highlighting the importance and conservation of Connecticut’s native bat species, along with the story of one of the state’s most intriguing historical sites! White Memorial’s Research Director, James Fischer will be there to discuss our BATS COUNT BAT CAM project in partnership with the CT DEEP! White Memorial’s Director of Development, Gerri Griswold aka The Bat Lady will bring many special pieces of art from her collection and answer your questions about bats with her colleague, Conservationist and Bat Rehabilitator Maureen Heidtmann (who is also known as The Bat Lady!) The day is full of fun…hikes, talks, stories, prizes, yummy food, and BATS! FREE ADMISSION!
