Instructor: Morgan Gilbert Cost: $65 Time and date(s): Sunday, April 19, 1:00 – 3:00 Location: Art Lab Skill level: New Learners Audience: Teen – adult Join us for this two-hour, hands-on cyanotype workshop where you’ll unlock the historical magic of creating striking blue and white artistic designs directly onto fabric—no experience needed! You’ll learn the unique chemistry, properly coat a small, light-colored natural fiber clothing item (which you bring) with the photosensitive solution, and creatively arrange objects like leaves or stencils to cast captivating silhouettes. We’ll then use sunlight for exposure, and you’ll master the simple washing process that reveals the beautiful, permanent Prussian blue print. Walk away with your own custom-designed, wearable piece of art! Morgan Wallace Gilbert is the director of the School of the Arts and Associate Professor of Fine Art at Southwest Virginia Community College and a PhD candidate in Arts Administration at the University of Kentucky. She is a visual artist with a focus in quilting. She believes Appalachia is a significant arts culture that should be shared with the rest of the world.
