Join the Human Relations Commission and Windsor Historical Society for an afternoon of joy, culture, and community starting at 4 PM. Enjoy family-friendly crafts, engaging story readings, lively performances, and delicious food from a fantastic local food truck. Come celebrate freedom, history, and togetherness with friends and neighbors! At 7 PM, remember the past with our annual Juneteenth firelight reading. This year we will read Lemuel Haynes’ 1776 essay, “Liberty Further Extended”. Born in West Hartford in 1753, Haynes was America’s first Black ordained minister. In this response to the Declaration of Independence, Haynes argues against slavery, calls out the hypocrisy of American’s war for “independence,” and advocates for a better, freer future. This program is part of the WindsorCT250 commemoration activities.
WHS invites people to connect with Windsor’s evolving history by preserving, interpreting, and sharing our community’s artifacts and stories.
