About this event
One of 13 upcoming events at Wine & Food Foundation, and 1,426 across Austin.
This class invites you to pack your bags (and your palate) for a global journey through the world of whiskey. With Local spirits educator Sam Hovland as your guide, you’ll explore how a single spirit takes on wildly different personalities across countries, cultures, and centuries. We’ll start with the fundamentals — from whisky to whiskey — then travel through the most iconic styles: Scotch whisky, Irish whiskey, Kentucky bourbon, Canadian whisky, Japanese whisky, and Texas whiskey, tasting how geography, tradition, and innovation shape what’s in the glass. Along the way, Brian will break down distillation methods, regional styles, and pivotal moments in whiskey history, while spotlighting craft distilleries and experimental aging techniques that are pushing the category forward today. We’ll wrap up by looking ahead to the future of whiskey — emerging regions, new production approaches, and how the global market continues to evolve. This class is designed for both the whiskey-curious and seasoned drinkers looking to taste with more confidence, context, and appreciation. No intimidation — just great whiskey, clear guidance, and a true road trip through one of the world’s most beloved spirits. Somm Space is located on the second floor, accessible via stairs only (no elevator). Attendees must be able to climb stairs. This event is for ages 21+ All event tickets are non-refundable IMBIBE means to consume or absorb – and that’s exactly what you’ll do in our classes… consume and absorb wine, food, and knowledge.
