About this event
One of 21 upcoming events at Winnetka Public Library.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, officials in growing cities in the Great Lakes region had to move the dead to make way for the living. In cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, and Cleveland, work crews were ordered to excavate, move, and rebury cemetery plots. But not all of workers were honest. Some claimed to move plots they left behind. Others weren't careful and didn't locate all the graves. Dr. Emilie Le Beau Lucchesi introduces these lost graves, how they were discovered, and what they mean in Great Lakes history. Speaker Bio: Emilie Le Beau Lucchesi, PhD is an author, educator, and journalist. Her work has appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times, USA Today, and The Atlantic. She is a regular contributor to Discover Magazine. She is the author of three nonfiction books, and she holds a PhD in communication from the University of Illinois-Chicago. The library makes every effort to ensure our programs can be enjoyed by all. If you have any concerns about accessibility or need to request specific accommodations, please contact the library. This is a virtual event hosted on Zoom. This event will not be recorded.
