About this event
One of 5 upcoming events at the Witte Museum, and 979 across San Antonio.
Every meal tells a Texas story. At this year’s Conference on Texas, explore the cultures, cuisines, and traditions that have shaped the Texas table during two days of presentations, panel discussions, cooking demonstrations, and tastings. Our Culinary Roots takes a deeper look at the histories and themes introduced in the Witte’s special exhibition Gather ‘Round the Table: Texas Food Traditions. Join historians, chefs, food writers, and Texas food industry leaders to discover the stories behind the foods we grow, the dishes we love, and the traditions we carry forward. Keynote speakers include Texas Monthly’s Daniel Vaughn, barbecue editor, and José R. Ralat, taco editor. Attend both days or choose a single-day ticket. For an additional hands-on experience, select the Two-Day Conference + La Tamalada ticket, which also includes the November 11 special opening event. Enjoy food demonstrations and tastings by some of San Antonio’s best chefs including: Scott Tompkins (H-E-B), Nicola Blaque (Jerk Shack, Freight Fried Chicken), Elizabeth Johnson (Pharm Table), and Geronimo Lopez (San Antonio Food Bank). A special Friday barbecue lunch will be provided from Burnt Bean Co., #1 on Texas Monthly’s Barbecue List 2025! Explore the full conference schedule, speakers, and ticket options.
