Homeschool Day: Back to School

What better way to spend a day than immersing your students in the Witte Museum? Join us for a fun day of self-guided interactive learning at Homeschool Day! Admission is $10 per participant and includes 9 a.m. early entry, access to the Special Exhibition Pterosaurs: Flight in the Age of Dinosaurs, and exclusive educator-led demonstrations. We encourage you to stay after your program and enjoy a picnic lunch in one of our outdoor picnic areas. Would you have what it takes to do this important job? 10:30 a.m. Fangtastic! – SWBC Live Lab Think you could tell the difference between a venomous and a poisonous snake? In this demonstration, compare 3-D printed snake fangs to discover how snakes around the world catch their prey. Learn about the functions of fangs and the power of poison! Birds of a Feather – East Foundation Land Stewardship Lab Have you ever wondered if dinosaurs had feathers? Discover the evidence, explore the science, and uncover what feathers reveal about some of history’s most fascinating creatures. 11 a.m. Storytime – John R. and Greli N. Making Rock Art – Nancy Smith Hurd Rock Art Lab How did the People of the Pecos create the rock art images that have survived thousands of years? What do archaeologists believe the symbols mean? Visit us for a hands on experience creating the story of the land, water and sky on our rock art wall! 11:30 a.m. Animal Encounter – Dawson Family Hall Did you know the museum is home to several Texas native animals? Find out more about our backyard neighbors during a demonstration of Animal Encounters. Learn about how these animals help support healthy habitats, and what we can do to help them in return.
