OKCello
About this event
About OKCello Okorie “OKCello” Johnson is an Atlanta-based cellist, composer, looper, improviser, and storyteller whose work has taken him from concert halls to national broadcasts, major cultural institutions, orchestras, festivals, and community gatherings. He has been featured on the Tamron Hall Show, held a Kennedy Center Office Hours Artist Residency, co-composed and performed Liminal: An Atlanta Concerto with the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, scored an Emmy Award-winning documentary, and created music for award-winning theatre. He has opened for Maxwell and performed with India.Arie, De La Soul, and Big Boi of OutKast. His recordings include Liminal, Resolve, Beacon, and his most recent album, Funny How Things Work Out. But the heart of an OKCello concert is not the résumé. It is the feeling in the room. It is the moment when a sound catches you off guard. The story that makes the audience laugh and then go quiet. The groove that makes you nod your head before you realize you are doing it. The reminder that music can still surprise us.
