About Alan: For most of his life, he has lived in Yellow Springs with his wife, Susan Stiles. He has been drawing since he could get hold of a crayon (probably red) and reach a wall. When he finally admitted that the only thing he liked to do that he might get paid for doing was art, he took the advice of a kindly advertising manager and studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. And with good luck, desperation and enough social capital, he got to work as a graphic artist and designer for twenty-five years. He has been unleashed (retired) for the last thirteen years. He hopes he will be able to keep making art for at least twenty-three more years. He does not believe in an afterlife. He and Susan have two springer spaniel brothers and a very old orange cat. The artist now prefers tea to coffee.
