Join YIVO Learning and Media Center Educator Susannah Trubman on a two-hour walking tour exploring the heart of what was once a major hub for the sensational, international phenomenon known as Yiddish theater. Beginning at the former site of Jacob Adler’s Grand Theater (255 Grand Street, now a part of Sara D. Roosevelt Park) and ending in Union Square, this walking tour will have attendees walk along the former Yiddish Broadway with special attention paid to sites of past theaters and notable performances. Attendees should wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and be prepared to stand for longer periods of time. Susannah Trubman holds a B.A. in English Literature from University of Wisconsin-Madison and an M.A. in History from Temple University. She has been studying Yiddish language and culture with YIVO since 2019, is a three-time veteran of the Uriel Weinreich Summer Program, and served as an intern for the Landsmanshaftn Collection at the YIVO archive.
