Austin Herb Society April Meeting

@ Growing Herbs in Central TX: Lessons & Lore from the Zilker Herb Garden Austin Herb Society Vice-President of Horticulture Bonnie Orr, who oversees the Zilker Herb Garden, and garden team member Bernadette will explore the garden’s history and the role of volunteers in its creation and care. The program will also focus on the benefits of herb gardening and include recommendations for easy-to-grow favorites as well as unique herbs for Central Texas gardens. Those attending will have the opportunity to view a variety of live herb plants and are invited to take a tour of the Zilker Herb Garden at the conclusion of the program. Speaker Bio: Bonnie assumed oversight of the Zilker Herb Garden four years ago after several years as a garden volunteer. She felt lucky to be able to spend time pursuing her favorite hobby when she retired after 30 years as a speech language pathologist for the Austin Independent School District. An Herb Garden volunteer since August 2022, Bernadette also serves as Vice-President of Communications for AHS. Her experiences as a volunteer in the Herb Garden inspired her to start her own garden maintenance business. Bernadette also enjoys making and selling pottery and is always in pursuit of a good book. and open to the public!
