About this event
One of 11 upcoming events at Wornall Majors House Museums, and 592 across Kansas City.
Uncover the hidden layers of one of Kansas City’s most beloved green spaces. Walk through the park’s surprising role in the Civil War as a battlefield during the 1864 Battle of Westport, when Union and Confederate forces clashed across what is now peaceful lawn. The tour will reveal how the land transformed from a private country club into a public park in memory of a biscuit magnate. Learn about everything from contemporary art installations, overlooked monuments, true crime, and friendly ducks. Join us for a journey into the city’s deep and sometimes surprising history. Tickets are $15 per person. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as this is a walking tour, and you’ll be standing and strolling throughout the entire experience. A light drizzle won’t stop us, but in the event of inclement weather, we’ll reschedule for a later date. You can schedule and start your event at the Wornall and Majors houses in our event booking tool. Our flexible scheduling and spacious areas offer many possibilities.
