About this event

Looking for a finish with a long history and natural ingredients? Milk paint is a great choice! Mixing a smooth base from milk protein and lime with natural pigments allows anyone to use this centuries-old technique to add durable color to woodenware, furniture, or even walls. However, there are a few tricks to using milk paint: it needs to be mixed from powder and finished properly to create a smooth, durable surface. Woodworker Maeve will lead students through a day of milk-paint basics as they make their own sample tiles for future reference. This is a great class for DIYers, anyone interested in learning more about natural home finishes, and woodcarvers or furniture makers looking to add color to their handmade items. Note that while several brands of milk paint are available on the market, this class works with Old Fashioned Milk Paint. This class will cover basic techniques for mixing, applying, and finishing milk paint to achieve a desired look and feel, as well as some basic color theory for layering milk paint pigments to create interesting and unique color combinations. Students will head home with a set of sample tiles to help them choose future colors. Additional information: Advanced registration required. Open to all skill levels. Suitable for ages 16+. A discounted youth price is available at checkout. A $60 materials fee covers all necessary tools and materials. Students will take home a set of sample tiles for reference on future projects.
