Interstitial | Exhibition

INTERSTITIAL: FAU MFA Candidate Showcase Opening October 2nd, 6 – 9pm and on view through November 28, 2026. Participating artists | Hye Young An, Sarah E. Huang, Raha Khosravi, Pinar Sinka, Jackson Grey Tucker, Anna Ruby Whitmire INTERSTITIAL showcases six second-year MFA candidates from Florida Atlantic University working across printmaking, book arts, photography, painting, performance, and sculpture. FAU’s MFA program emphasizes this interdisciplinary development–conceptual, aesthetic, technical, and professional- with this exhibition presenting work made during their first year (out of three) in the program. “Interstitial” refers to the small, narrow gaps between things: cracks, intervals of time; it is the interstices that occur between objects or time periods. Curator, Sarah E. Huang, borrowed this term because it names where the students find themselves at their midpoint within the program. And although they are almost halfway through, exhibiting together now allows viewers to trace the threads of the artists’ distinct, idiosyncratic practices, which will (and have) only become clearer through our individual studio and parallel practices. As Huang looked more closely at the works her colleagues produced over the last year, she found that they share a similar preoccupation with “betweenness.” Meaning, each artist represented is working to reconcile some sort of dichotomy: material and immaterial, process and object, inner life and outer life.
