3-Day Workshop with Artist Derek Harrison / “Figures in Natural Light: From Life to Studio” Wednesday, February 24 – Friday, February 26, 2027 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM In this three-day workshop, students will explore painting a costumed model outdoors in natural light, focusing on both observational studies and the creation of a more developed studio piece. We will begin with small color studies painted from life to strengthen accuracy in color, value, and light, while also learning how to capture high-quality photographic reference for continued work in the studio. The class will combine plein air and alla prima techniques with photo reference to bridge direct observation and refined studio painting. Throughout the workshop, we will dive deeply into color theory, drawing, paint handling, composition, narrative, and visual storytelling, along with materials and professional workflow. By the end, students will have a stronger understanding of how to translate life into compelling, finished works. Minimum of 8 students, Maximum of 16 students FEE: $500.00 for Booth Museum Members, $575.00 for not-yet-members To learn more about Booth Art Academy, CLICK HERE.
