Kick off your Thanksgiving celebration with a little exercise, fresh coastal air, and plenty of holiday spirit at the annual Duck Turkey Trot 5K. This popular Thanksgiving Day tradition brings together runners, walkers, families, and visitors for a festive 3.1-mile race through the charming town of Duck on the Outer Banks. Open to participants of all abilities, the event offers a fun and active way to start the holiday while enjoying the area's welcoming community atmosphere. The scenic course begins and ends near Scarborough Faire Shopping Village in downtown Duck, winding through residential neighborhoods and along portions of N.C. Highway 12. Participants can enjoy the beautiful coastal surroundings while sharing the experience with friends and family. Thanksgiving-themed costumes are encouraged, with a costume contest featuring categories such as Best Thanksgiving, Most Ducky, and Best Group Costume. The festivities continue after the race with a celebration at Tree House Cafe & Coffee, featuring refreshments, food, and opportunities to socialize with fellow participants. Organized by the Outer Banks Track Club, the Duck Turkey Trot 5K also supports local youth runners and athletic opportunities in Dare County.
