SCA Evolved Q Grading
About this event
DESCRIPTION
This is a six day course intended for experienced coffee cuppers. The class is designed to assess a professional’s ability to evaluate coffee using Coffee Value Assessment (CVA) standards; coursework includes nine exams (1 written and 8 practical assessments). After passing these exams, students will receive their Q Grading license under the new SCA curriculum and CVA standard.
Q Grader licenses are valid for three years, at which point renewal is required for the license to remain active.
CURRICULUM
Learn, understand, and successfully apply CVA sensory assessment.
Explain the function and background of tools like intensity scales, CATA lists, and hedonic scales.
Demonstrate practical skills and apply a shared lexicon of terms to sensory evaluation.
Use the CVA Descriptive and Affective Forms to describe and evaluate coffee with precision.

The Specialty Coffee Association recently absorbed the Q Grading certification process from the CQI and implemented Coffee Value Assessment to synchronize coffee scoring standards.

Instructor | Kaleena Teoh
Kaleena Teoh is a co-founder at Coffee Project NY, the Academy’s Director of Education, and a certified AST (Authorized SCA Trainer) and oversees all Academy lesson plans and curricula. She has a background in psychology, speech pathology, and social work and is fluent in Chinese, Japanese, and American Sign Language.

While we don’t offer refunds for classes, we will accommodate changes based on when you reach out to us and how much advance notice is given before the date of the reservation.
Over 4 weeks notice: free rescheduling or credit of equal value toward any class
Under 4 weeks notice: $50 rescheduling fee or credit of original value minus $50
Under 72 hours notice: 50% rescheduling fee or credit of 50% of original class value
Under 24 hours notice: no credit available
