Learn the exciting and magical process of etching copper and champlevé enameling! 2-Day Workshop – 7 hours each day (with lunch break!) Date: Saturday, February 27 – Sunday, February 28, 2027 Time: 10am-5pm, each day Description: Join us in the metals studio along with Zan Rubio(!) for an exciting two days of etching copper and Champlevé enameling! For thousands of years, craftsman have employed the technique of champlevé enameling to put color and imagery on metal, which often meant dangerous chemicals or painstaking labor. But with the development of galvanic etching and custom toner decals, creating detailed and interesting champlevé jewelry has never been this easy or safe! Over the course of the workshop, students will have the chance to learn how to etch copper or silver, as well as how to pack, fire, stone, and finish their enamels to produce unique champlevé pieces. Students will each leave with the information on how to set up their own etching bath and a sample of the technique learned. This class is open to all levels, no metalsmithing experience necessary! Students with varying levels of experience with enameling may utilize more advanced techniques combined with galvanic etching such as silver foil, transparent enamels, and overlays. Tuition: $250 + $65 materials fee Materials: All materials will be provided We really want you to join us in the studio!
