Explore the possibilities of embroidery stitches in this monthly suite of workshops! July's stitch is the stem stitch! 3-hour workshop Date: Saturday, JUly 11 Time: 10am-1pm Description: Build your toolkit of stitches this year with artist Nancy Quick Langer! Join Nancy in the studio each month for a thorough focus on a single type of embroidery stitch, exploring possibilities and variations of the technique. Each month is a stand-alone workshop; you can join for one workshop or as many as you like! This month’s focus is the Stem Stitch, a versatile stitch that creates a lovely roped line, takes corners well, and can also be used as a fill stitch. This workshop is introductory level and beginner friendly! No experience necessary or expected. You can expect an introduction to tools and materials of embroidery in general, alongside the focused attention on the potential magic of the Stem Stitch. Tuition: $65 + $10 materials fee (per workshop) (if you are viewing this listing on your phone, scroll down to the bottom of the page for the class registration link) Materials: all materials are included. Note: We really want you to join us in the studio! Full and partial tuition scholarships are available to alleviate some of the financial burden of attending a class. Scholarship application is found at this link. You can expect to hear from someone on the CC staff within 2 weeks. If you have any questions, email Jamie Boyle, Fibers Program Manager, at [email protected], or leave a voice message for them at 412-465-1628. Location: Contemporary Craft, TImmons Studios (5688 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201). Note, this workshop will take place in the Fleischner Family Fibers Loft, which is on the second floor of the building. There are 2 entrances to the Timmons Studios. • One entrance is facing Butler Street. To access the Fibers Loft from the Butler Street facing entrance, there are a total of 32 stairs to ascend. • One entrance is facing 57th Street. This entrance is accessible by ramp, with no stairs to ascend. There is a lift inside the building to access the Fibers Loft on the second floor. About the Artist Nancy is a writer, teacher, and hand embroidery artist. She is interested in the social history of needlework, a skill that is useful, beautiful, and somehow also marginalized. In her own work, Nancy explores stitching as a meditative practice that connects her to generations of women who came before her. She is a member of the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh and the Three Rivers Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America.
