@ Cora Dance Alleghany, 510 Main Street, Clifton Forge, VA @ Cora Dance Brooklyn, 177 Dwight Street, 2R, Brooklyn, NY @ Henrico High School, 302 Azalea Avenue, Richmond, VA and @ Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology (ARGS), 512 W Washington Bringing together more than 50 teen dancers from Appomattox Regional Governor's School for the Arts and Technology, Henrico High School, Cora Dance Alleghany, and Cora Dance Brooklyn, The Crossroads Project is an ambitious, multi-site initiative within Cora Dance's Fellowship Initiatives that explores the meaning of home through movement, writing, performance, and community dialogue. Conceived and directed by Shannon Hummel in collaboration with SH/CD Company Members and local teaching artists at each site, multi-week creative residencies take place in Alleghany County, Petersburg, and Richmond, Virginia, and Brooklyn, New York. Within their own communities, four cohorts of young artists create original interdisciplinary works exploring what it means to be at home in their bodies, their residences, and their local communities. Each residency culminates in a public performance and facilitated reflection, inviting local audiences into dialogue around the artists' experiences of identity, belonging, and place. On September 24–25, all participants unite at Appomattox Regional Governor's School for the Arts and Technology for a culminating collaborative residency and public performance. Building upon the work developed in their individual communities, the four cohorts create a final chapter that considers the United States as a shared home—celebrating what they cherish, examining what they hope will change, and reflecting on the promises of equality and the ongoing pursuit of belonging through the lens of the Declaration of Independence as part of the America250 commemoration. Weaving together choreography, writing, and personal stories from across the four communities, the culminating performance offers a powerful portrait of young people imagining a more just and connected future. The Crossroads Project is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. For more details, see each individual event in the calendar page of Cora Dance’s website or email [email protected].
