Fellowship Initiatives: Crossroads Project: Richmond, VA

Wednesday, September 9 - Friday, September 11: The Crossroads Project w/ Shannon Hummel @ Center for the Arts at Henrico High School, 302 Azalea Avenue, Richmond, VA Working with student dancers from the Center for the Arts at Henrico High School, Richmond, VA, Shannon Hummel will facilitate Cora’s Fellowship Initiative: The Crossroads Project, an intensive, multi-site project exploring the idea of “home” through movement, writing, performance, and community dialogue. Led by Crossroads founder Shannon Hummel in collaboration with artists at each site, weeklong intensives will take place in Alleghany County, Petersburg, and Richmond, VA, and Brooklyn, NYC, engaging four cohorts of teen artists in the creation of original interdisciplinary work reflecting their personal and collective experiences of home, identity, and belonging. More than 50 youth participants from across all four communities will perform multiple times throughout the season and come together September 24–25 at Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology in Petersburg, VA for a collaborative residency and shared performance, weaving together the voices, choreography, and stories developed throughout Crossroads into powerful community-centred events.
