The Daniel Boone Homestead will come alive with the sights, smells, and sounds of colonial America during our Heritage Day Fall Festival. Celebrate the arrival of Fall with your family and friends. This event will feature a variety of colonial and early American demonstrations, trades, and hands-on activities, and will include some new participants and demonstrations while also continuing our celebration of America250. This year’s highlights include blacksmithing, gunsmithing, leatherworking, open hearth cooking, tinsmithing, spinning, and an eighteenth-century fashion display. Visitors will hear from living history interpreters about the colonial militia and Dragoons and can participate in a muster activity using wooden dummy guns and swords. The event also includes a variety of artisan craft and specialty food vendors plus fall activities for children like pumpkin painting. Stone House History will be returning this year with their tape weaving and wood carving demonstrations and colonial musician Robert Mouland will be entertaining visitors all afternoon with his historic instruments and dancing puppets. We are excited to also have Coffee with a Colonial joining us for the first time this year. In addition to demonstrations and trades, there will be a variety of eighteenth-century hands-on activities for children and adults to enjoy including candle dipping, quill pen writing, and colonial toys and games. Visitors are of course invited to tour the two historic houses onsite – the Boone House and the Bertolet Log House – are learn about the three families who lived on the property in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Make sure to visit the spring cellar at the Boone House – the oldest part of the home. And don’t forget a visit to the unique, three-room Bertolet Log House, a prime example of early Germanic architecture. Admission: Adults $12.00, Seniors (65+) $10.00, Youth (6-17) $5.00. Children 5 and under and DBHA members are free. Please, no pets (except service animals) and no smoking. The event is presented and funded by The Daniel Boone Homestead Associates.
