In person at the Valley Green Inn or online on Zoom David Bower, FOW volunteer extraordinare and avid postcard collector, will show dozens of images from his extensive collection of Wissahickon postcard views, most of which date to the “Golden Age of Postcards” over 100 years ago. We’ll view and talk about beautiful cards, interesting and funny messages, special addresses and postmarks, one-of-a-kind cards, and many that he’s acquired since his first Valley Talk in 2022. David Bower has been a longtime Wissahickon Park visitor since the 1970s and an FOW volunteer since 1992. From 1998 through 2016, he worked as the Volunteer and Stewardship Coordinator in the Wissahickon for Fairmount Park Commission and later for Philadelphia Parks & Recreation. He’s led over 3,500 volunteer service days in the Wissahickon since 1995. Currently, he leads popular FOW volunteer service days on Wednesdays and Sundays. Details about these service days are posted on the “Volunteer“ page on the FOW website. Register here to attend in-person at the Valley Green Inn. Register here to attend online on Zoom.
FOW's mission is to conserve the natural beauty and wildness of the Wissahickon Valley and stimulate public interest therein.
