@ © Lou Peralta The Griffin Museum and Lou Peralta invite you to travel across Mexico in January and February. From the vibrant streets and traditions of Yucatán and Oaxaca to the galleries, museums, architecture, and art fairs of Mexico City, this trip is designed to immerse photographers in Mexico’s visual culture, and give them the time, access, and guidance to make compelling work. To Express Tour Interest In This Trip Click On This Form © Bert Mulder © Oscar Dominguez Trip Overview The journey begins in Mérida, during the Bienal de Yucatán, with visits to local galleries, artists’ studios, and the city’s distinctive streets and neighborhoods. We then continue to Oaxaca City and surrounding communities, photographing everyday life, celebrations, craft traditions, and the people who shape the region’s visual identity. Photographic opportunities may include Carnival processions, the Santo Domingo district, the Sunday market in Tlacolula, traditional pottery-making in San Bartolo Coyotepec, charros and equestrian traditions, artisanal mezcal production, and the Carnival celebrations of San Martín Tilcajete. In Mexico City, the photographic experience expands into the world of contemporary art and architecture. The itinerary includes Zona MACO Art Fair, Material Art Fair, museum and gallery visits, artist encounters, and private tours of Casa Luis Barragán and the Frida Kahlo Museum, alongside visits to the Museo Anahuacalli, Museo Nacional de Antropología, MUAC, Jumex, Tamayo, Museo de Arte Moderno, and the Palace of Fine Arts. Day-by-Day Itinerary The itinerary will remain flexible so the group can respond to local schedules, changing conditions, and the strongest photographic opportunities available. She belongs to the fourth generation of a family dedicated to portrait photography—a legacy that continues to nourish her ongoing exploration of the genre. Her practice expands the limits of the two-dimensional photographic image, reimagining portraiture as a sculptural and spatial experience. With a background in editorial photography, Peralta transitioned over the last decade into a full-time artistic practice. Her recent work intertwines pre-Hispanic influences with contemporary culture and often materializes in hand-built structures made of diverse materials—such as paper, fabric, agave fiber, or copper wire—integrating photographic processes with physical gestures and artisanal methods. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Mexico and abroad, with recent presentations in Mexico City; León, Guanajuato; Santa Fe, New Mexico; and Houston, Texas. She recently completed a series that brings together contemporary portraiture and the architectural concepts of Luis Barragán. Peralta is a Fujifilm brand ambassador through the X-Photographers program. Recent recognition of her work includes being selected for the Photolucida Critical Mass Top 50 (2023 and 2025), the FRESH Photography Award (2025), the 22nd Santa Fe Photography Symposium in New Mexico (2023), the selection of one of her works for the Ibero Puebla Biennial (BIP) 2025, and an artist residency within The ANT Project (2026). © Lou Peralta Dates Feb. 1 – Feb. 6 Mérida, Oaxaca, Mexico City Artist Guide Lou Peralta Local transportation Included Hosted Dinner by the Griffin Museum Visits to artists studios, museums and private tours at Casa Luis Barragán and Frida Kahlo Museum Plane tickets and accommodations not included The Griffin Museum of Photography Add to calendar Google Calendar iCalendar Outlook 365 Outlook Live
