@ The Griffin Museum and Mary Beth Meehan are pleased to offer this advanced project development program for artists seeking to bring an existing body of work to the next level. This advanced Atelier II is designed for intermediate to advanced photographers who already have a project in motion—an idea and passion they have begun to photograph—but who seek support in further developing and refining the work. This program is intended for artists who value growth over validation and are willing to enter the “messy middle” of experimentation, research, doubt, revision, and breakthrough. Participants should be prepared for a rigorous process of image-making, critique, discussion, and thoughtful engagement with the work of others. Upon Completion: — Featured highlight on social media — Online exhibition — Inclusion in a printed Griffin catalog distributed by the Museum — Final review with a photography professional, either a gallerist or museum curator About Atelier II Dates: Twelve sessions on Mondays: September 14, Individual meetings, September 28, October 5, October 19, October 26, November 9, November 16, November 30, December 7, December 14, 2026, and January 11, 2027. Her community collaborations and public art installations have challenged dominant narratives across racial, cultural, and social boundaries, addressing often fraught public dialogue with powerful imagery, personal backstories and tender archival material that lend an essential layer of humanity, insight, and care. Originally trained as a photojournalist, Meehan has spent decades interrogating her role as a storyteller, reckoning with the limits of photography and using open dialogue to broaden the possibilities for what the camera’s frame might contain. She is also a passionate teacher and mentor, helping photographers at all levels to bring their projects to life. Meehan’s public installations have been mounted in the city centers of Newnan, Georgia, Providence, Rhode Island, and her hometown of Brockton, Massachusetts, as well as at The RISD Museum, Brown University, and IIIT University in Delhi, India. Her work has been exhibited at organizations including The Griffin Museum of Photography, Aperture Gallery, and Stanford University, and her work has received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Massachusetts Cultural Council, and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. Meehan’s projects have been featured and reviewed in publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Los Angeles Review of Books and Le Monde. She has held artist residencies at Stanford, Brown, and the University of Missouri School of Journalism, and has lectured at RISD, the School of Visual Arts, and MassART. A native of Brockton, Massachusetts, Mary Beth received degrees from Amherst College and the University of Missouri, Columbia. She lives in Providence, Rhode Island. Her major projects include: Seeing Silicon Valley Seeing Newnan Seen/Unseen City of Champions See more of Meehan’s work at www.marybethmeehan.com The Griffin Museum of Photography Add to calendar Google Calendar iCalendar Outlook 365 Outlook Live
