She reports on climate, culture, politics, immigration, and human rights issues, and produces long-form visual essays in Boston, Canada, and Latin America. She previously worked at the Boston Herald for 16 years reporting on news, human interest, and lifestyle stories. Prior to the Herald, Angela worked with The Associated Press, Chicago Tribune, and USA Today, and her photography has been published nationally and internationally. He explores how capitalism and power have shaped countries, and how that can be seen and experienced in everyday life. Graves also works to elevate the representation of people of color in the fine art canon, and to create opportunities for conversation about race, representation, and urban life. He photographs to preserve memory. © Andrea Bruce © Andrea Bruce © Andrea Bruce © Andrea Bruce Andrea Bruce Andrea Bruce is a photographer, educator, artist and writer whose work focuses on ideas of democracy and the aftermath of war. She concentrates on the social issues that are sometimes ignored and often ignited in war’s wake. Her work bridges art and journalism and welcomes a critical understanding and reimagining of both. Her clients include National Geographic and The New York Times as well as many publications around the globe. Andrea was a 2016 Nieman Fellow at Harvard University where she studied ideas of democracy. She is the publisher and creator of the hyper-local, visual-first publication Down in the County serving Pamlico County, NC. Andrea started working in Iraq in 2003, bringing a local reporter’s knack for intimacy and community focus to the lives of Iraqis and the U.S. military. For eight years she worked as a staff photographer for The Washington Post, where she originated and authored a weekly column called “Unseen Iraq.” She also worked at The Concord Monitor and The St. Petersburg Times after graduating from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1995. She is a member/ owner of the photo agency NOOR. In 2011, she was an Alicia Patterson Fellow and in 2019 she was a CatchLight Fellow and a National Geographic Explorer. Her awards include the 2018 IWMF Anja Niedringhaus award, a 2014 World Press Photo 2nd prize for Daily Life and the inaugural Chris Hondros Fund Award in 2012 for the “commitment, willingness and sacrifice shown in her work.” She has been named Photographer of the Year four times by the WHNPA, received several awards from the Pictures of the Year International contest, including the 2017 Environmental Vision Award, and was awarded the prestigious John Faber Award from the Overseas Press Club in New York. Currently, she is based in Indiana, continues to freelance on a local and global scale and teaches for Ball State University. He explores how capitalism and power have shaped countries, and how that can be seen and experienced in everyday life. He photographs to preserve memory. © Alexey Yurenev © Alexey Yurenev © Alexey Yurenev Alexey Yurenev Alexey Yurenev is an artist, visual researcher, and educator whose work explores the intersections of memory, technology, and production of knowledge. He teaches at Columbia University and International Center of Photography. His work has been exhibited internationally at venues including FOAM (Amsterdam), Hangar (Brussels), MOMus Modern/Costakis Collection (Thessaloniki), and Rencontres d’Arles. He is the author of the book Seeing Against Seeing (Nooscope, 2025). Yurenev’s projects have been featured in The New York Times, National Geographic, Literary Hub, and Harper’s. His work is held in collections such as Harvard University Special Collections, Johns Hopkins University Special Collections, FOAM Museum, and the Anti-Krieg Museum. He has been recognized by Photographer of the Year International and received the Silurian Society Award for excellence in arts and culture journalism. He has also been nominated for an Emmy Award and the FOAM Paul Huf Award. He is the co-founder of FOTODEMIC, an online platform for innovative visual strategies, and the founder and executive producer of Living Room, a monthly public program for ICP alumni. About Vision(ary) Vision(ary) is the Griffin Museum of Photography’s annual summer public art exhibition dedicated to the art of visual storytelling. This public art installation features individual exhibitions with distinct photographic styles, including banners hung on light standards and art installations around the Griffin Museum. From the Civil Rights Movement to contemporary struggles for racial equity, gender justice, environmental protection, labor rights, immigration reform, and democratic accountability, protest has shaped the American narrative. Photography has been central to this history—documenting resistance, amplifying voices, and creating images that define collective memory. In the light of America’s 250th anniversary, this year’s edition, Raising Our Voices, presents photographic projects that focus on advocacy, social justice, and activism within the United States—past or present.
