About this event
One of 6 upcoming events at Health Education & Training Institute, and 3,732 across Portland, Maine.
This two-day training is an introduction to the evidence-based clinical method of Motivational Interviewing, an effective approach in the care of challenging clients, and will provide participants with an opportunity to explore creative ways of integrating these approaches. Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered, evidence-based, directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence. After orientation to the underlying spirit, structure, and principles of Motivational Interviewing, practical exercises will help participants strengthen empathy skills, recognize and elicit change talk, and roll with discord. The participants in the concurrent Teaching Motivational Interviewing workshop will be periodically joining this workshop to lead exercises as part of their training. We are offering this workshop at a discount and will be inviting feedback about the new trainers. From recent Foundational MI trainings: This was an excellent training that happened to be very timely for me as a student finishing my MA program. I appreciated Stephen's professionalism, genuineness, and warmth. The training positively affected the work I am currently doing as an intern and hopefully my future clinical practice. Excellent training. Powerful experience personally and professionally. Highly recommend, so very grateful It really paid off the first day back to work. I found that I was having much deeper conversations with people and they were much more likely to take steps forward to take control of their personal health. I have told colleagues and friends already about how much I enjoyed this training!
