We invite you to join The Bee Conservancy at the Green-Wood Cemetery for an adventure in community science. During this hands-on event, you will capture images of wild bees and other insects, then edit and upload them to the iNaturalist app using your smartphone. The event begins inside the Green-House with The Bee Conservancy’s Program Manager Amy Grumbling about the goals behind The Bee Conservancy’s community science program and an overview of some of the 60+ bee species you might see in Green-Wood. You will also set up your account and device with the iNaturalist app if you have not yet done so, and equip you to capture clear, strategic images of bees and other pollinators with your phone or camera. Price: Free Register The Green-House at Green-Wood (see details below) Then we’ll venture into a selection of Green-Wood’s meadows, enclosure gardens, and beyond, where you can unwind in the ecologically rich greenspace while observing and exploring nature through the lens of pollinators — and your smartphone or camera! We will be outdoors for much of this event, so please dress for comfort and suitably for the weather – we recommend hats, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and bringing a refillable water bottle as well as a fully charged smartphone or camera. The Bee Conservancy The Bee Conservancy (TBC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting all bees and fostering thriving food and ecosystems through community-based education, research, habitat creation, and advocacy in urban and underserved areas. Amy Grumbling Amy has been teaching the public about wild and native bees as an Environmental Educator at The Bee Conservancy since 2022, and is a Cornell-certified Master Beekeeper. She just returned from a week-long workshop on the Natural History of Native Bees at the Eagle Hill Institute in Steuben, Maine, where she worked on refining her native bee field identification techniques. Amy is the Program Manager for TBC’s NYC Bee the Solution community science events. Please note that if only 1 ticket shows as available during the registration process, that is the last ticket available. Know Before You Go: Tickets: There is no need to print tickets!
